Houston...we have a heartbeat!

Yippee! On Friday I visited my sister (the doc) and brought my doppler and she immediately found the baby's heartbeat! I was so happy! And she was quite proud of herself as well! I realized that I was looking for it ALL WRONG. I was pressing WAY TOO HARD! She didn't press at all! And she found it a bit higher than I was looking. And it sounded a lot quieter and different than I was checking for. But now that I know what I'm looking for (and that I don't have to push on my tender tummy like a mad woman to find it) I found it myself last night! So fun to now be able to check up on my little one any time I want to! Because I have to say that other than my thickening middle and giant ta-tas, I don't feel pregnant at all. Not like I have any reference to what feeling pregnant should be but...I feel normal. Full of usual energy. Not extra tired. Not extra hungry. Not nauseous. My headaches are even better. Nothin'. I guess this is good as long as everything is all good inside! Anyways, I'm on the final countdown at work. 3 weeks left (I have to say I'm super jealous of the teachers in the US who I follow that all seem to be done teaching now....I don't get it? When do you start back in the fall? We start back after Labour day so I don't know if that is later than you but I might have to look into moving to the states after hearing about this early finish for summer break!!!)
Ciao for now!!

  1. Amazing news and it must be just too cool to hear a heartbeat other than your own! I guess you should just enjoy the fact that you don't have a terrible pregnancy - I have some friends who felt wonderful the whole time and others who hated being pregnant. So, consider yourself lucky!

I am a teacher as well and live in Ontario so I can't wait until June 30 to call it yet another end of a great year. Our US friends get out early, but I am pretty sure they start back in August, so I much prefer our system. Just used to it! What grade do you teach?

  2. Yay for a heartbeat! That is excellent news. I am so glad your sister was able to find it for you. When is your next u/s? I'm not sure about when everyone else gets out of school, but my mom is a teacher and her last week is this week. But she also goes back for pre-planning in early August (I think the kids go back the week of the 16th or 23rd). So she gets out pretty early, but they make up for it by going back earlier, too. Here, though, it has a lot to do with the weather. In Florida, most of the schools are outdoors, so they don't want to kids going to school in June because of the heat.

  6. First off I'm so jealous your sis is a dr!! You are so lucky! Secondly, that is so awesome you heard the heartbeat, yay!!! We just got ours and I think I found mine too, again I wish I had a dr relative who could confirm it but if it is the heartbeat it is the best sound ever!! Does your sister think you can use a doppler too much, I basically want to use my every day but hubby says it makes him nervous to mess around with it too often. Just curious on her thoughts!!
